Introducing Guest Writer for Tallook: Sarah Baker
Hello everyone:
I’m very excited to start offering articles from other tall writers. At least once a month you will see an article written by Sarah Baker. The first article will be posted next week. Below you will find a Q&A to help you to get to know her better. You can also find her on twitter.
How tall are you?
6’0″ but with a 36″ inseam!
What area will you be reporting from?
I live in Santa Monica, CA (Los Angeles)
Are there any brick and mortar stores you go to for tall products?
Lululemon and Nordstrom are always sure bets. I do shop at several other stores, but it’s always a gamble on whether you’ll find anything that fits correctly. I do a lot of shopping online. I’ve had great luck with Long Tall Sally for jeans and I like the suits at Banana Republic.
What are some struggles you’ve had to face through the years?
Dating has definitely been a challenge in the past, because a very small percentage of men are over 6’2″. Fortunately, I have a wonderful 6’4″ significant other that I met playing volleyball!
What’s the best part about being tall?
I think my height gives me more of a presence in a room than others. I feel that I’m viewed as a leader, both personally and professionally, which works well with my personality. I also play a lot of beach volleyball, so being tall is a serious advantage!
Favorite store?
Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack! I find that most designer brands are cut longer and fit my body well. Nordstrom carries several brands of jeans that come in long inseams, including Hudson and Joe’s. They also carry larger shoe sizes (I wear a 10 or 11 depending on the brand/style).
Do you have any tall shopping advice or words of wisdom?
Never settle for clothing that fits “just ok.” It will either sit in your closet unworn, or you will wear it and not feel completely confident. It can be tough to find the right fit when you have long limbs, but there are so many options out there these days. If I find a pair of jeans, a dress or a shirt that fits well, I often buy it in more than one color. Another tip: Don’t wear flat flip flops when you go out on the town. I see so many girls do this to avoid being any taller. It makes your outfit look less polished and flip flops make your feet look bigger. There are plenty of cute flats to try on, but tall girls also shouldn’t be afraid of heels. What’s another 2 inches!?
